S. Sekou Abodunrin

Man began in Adam. Within the first three chapters of Genesis Adam is a fallen man. All of humanity was in Adam when this happened, so all men are born shattered, broken, and destitute in spirit. Man is a sinner and he knows it. Man often does not know why, so the bible reveals the why and the means of recovery. The bible reveals that the wages of sin is death [Rom 6.23]. This death is firstly spiritual, and then physical and ultimately the second death: - an eternity in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone [Rev 21.8]. This means that the sinner deserves an eternal spiritual death asides just physical death.

Man was spiritually bankrupt and even his good works were a stench in God's nostrils. Man's good works therefore had no saving power whatsoever from sin [Gal 3.13]. Therefore we are told that salvation is not by works of righteousness which we had done [Titus 3.5]. Neither the angels nor the devil could save man, this leaves God as the only credible option. God knew that unless he provides an answer, man's doom was sealed, for man is ungodly.

God hatches a plan that based on his grace and not according to our works, that he will call us into a new family in Himself [2 Tim 1.9]. This means that God is calling out to ungodly men. The ungodly man hears and responds to this divine call and according to God's plan; God justifies the ungodly [Rom 4.5].

In order for this plan to be possible, Christ died for our sins for the wages of sin is death. He died the death that the sinner deserved. This death was both physical and spiritual in nature. His soul was made an offering for sin [Is 53.10] and he bare our sins in his body on the cross [1 pet 2.24]. When he died, he died for the sins of the whole world [1 john 2.2]. This makes salvation available unto all ungodly men. However salvation only comes upon all those who believe this message. Again salvation is made available unto all, but is only upon all who believe. [Rom 3:22].

Therefore, Jesus is especially the saviour of those that believe though he is the saviour of all men [1 Tim 4.10]. The message to believe is communicated to us through the gospel. The gospel is the good news of the redemption that is extended to the ungodly on the basis of what Christ has accomplished when he assumed the place of the ungodly. [Isaiah 53.6] This gospel is the power of God. [Rom 1.16] When we believe that he died in our place and suffered in our stead and that he was raised to prove our release from all the claims of justice upon us in resurrection, we are saved. [Rom 10 & Eph 2.7]

When you are saved,

You obtain eternal life which is life of the same quality and essence as God has it [Rom 6.23].

You become the house in which God lives by his Spirit [Gal 4.6] [1 Cor 6.19,20]

You also received forgiveness for all your trespasses. [Col 2.13]. This forgiveness covers all trespasses in the past, present and future. God is able to do this because he is conscious of what Jesus went through in order to save us [Eph 4.32].

Men are to stay thankful to God that we have redemption through the blood of Jesus. It is not in any way cheap, it cost Jesus his life [Eph 1.7]. It comes free to man, but it is costly to God.

When you received salvation you were justified [made righteous] in the name of the Lord Jesus. Justification is not needed where one did not stand accused to start with. Justification means that man who was once accused, who has undergone trial and has been found guilty before God has now been acquitted of all that was laid against him previously by a divine fiat. It means that in the heavenly tribunal you stood guilty as charged and yet by favor you stand "not guilty". If still guilty, then you are not justified and if justified you are no longer treated as guilty. This means your justification is based on the merits of Jesus. His justification is freely communicated to you by the grace of God [Rom 3.24] This justification means that you will not suffer the wrath of God in eternity [Rom 5.9]. You are now the righteousness of God in Christ [2 Cor 5.21] - Jesus paid to make this yours. Jesus did not only die in your place, but lives at the right hand of God to guarantee your life in him [Heb 7.22].

Now you have peace with God [Rom 5.1] and the Lord Jesus will see to it that what he has started in you goes on to full completion [Philip 1.6]. You belong to God forever and you are committed to him with your life just as he has committed himself to you with his very life. You want to present your body to him and renew your mind with God's word so that you start thinking like God [Rom 12.1, 2].

You are justified by faith [Rom 5.1]. You are justified freely by God's grace [Rom3.24]. You are justified by Christ's blood [Rom 5.9]. You are justified by the name of Jesus [1 cor 6.11]. You are justified by Christ [Gal 2.16].

This is the good news. This makes us more than conquerors!
