I want to encourage you to read through 2 cor 3 before continuing.
13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
2 cor 3: 13 - 15
The apostle Paul captures the heart of the matter. Moses put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished. We understand that that which is abolished is the law. This means that though the Jew had the law delivered through the ministry of Moses, they never really understood the fullness of the law nor the fact that it was coming to an end.
The law was a schoolmaster to lead men to Christ. Men could not see that the real meaning of the end of the law was Christ. Christ is the end of the law. They could see all the instructions, ordinances, rules and statutes but they couldn’t see past these because that would require that their heart be not veiled.
You realise that the veil that Moses put over his physical face, was a symbol of the veil that was upon their hearts. They were reading the law and living under its governance, but they were veiled. They could not see that there was coming an end to the law simply because the law has done its job and confirmed man’s blindness.
There is a strong correlation between the veil on the heart and the blindness that is upon the mind. If you were to read the first two chapters of Genesis, you stand awed in the presence of the magnificence of Adam’s mind. The reason for such forceful expression of wisdom and light was because there was no veil upon Adam’s heart. The blindness upon the mind is a reference to the fact that until our visions and seeings become horizoned by Christ, all that we see is faulty and at best as good as blindness. It is blindness to the person of Christ.
Since Christ is the light of the world, to observe anything but Christ, no matter how religious, is to embrace and be embraced by darkness. This is true blindness.
According o God’s word, we know that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ. Therefore when I hide from Christ or stay blind to him or fail to see all things in the light of him, I am really hiding myself from a well-adjusted and qualitative thought life.
The higher thoughts of God are bound up in the person of his son, when I see the son and see all things in the light of the son I see into all things and know things as they truly are and not after appearances alone.
Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
2 Cor 3:16
It is clear then that there is only one way to come out of under the influence of this distortion upon our minds. This is by turning the heart to the Lord. Said differently, when the heart is turned to the Lord, the veil is lifted. This is a reference to spiritual death. Spiritual death operates in the spirit of man the same way that a veil operates upon a face – everything appears indistinct and there is dullness.
When the bible says that there is a veil it is describing the effect of darkness and how it registers upon the human spirit.
Satan is able to reign over men through the blindness in their minds. The blindness in their minds is sustained and empowered by the veil upon their hearts. This means that satan needs the presence of spiritual death in order to gain a foothold for reigning. The secret is not in satan, but in the blindness in men’s minds that empower his reign.
Clearly then, the new testament shows that the cure is not seeing more into things demonic or satanic, but in seeing more of the Lord. When the heart comes to rest on the Lord the heart is unveiled and suddenly the things that enforced darkness in the mind no longer have sustenance from a dead spirit. Put differently, the means by which man gets unveiled is by the turning of the heart unto the Lord or the rebirth of the spirit. The presence of the reborn spirit is the end of the dominion of darkness.
Spiritual death veils the human spirit until the mind gets really blind to the realities of the realm of life where the power of Christ reigns. You see, until the millennial reign of Christ, the reign of Christ is purely spiritual. This reign is expressed by unveiled faces or reborn spirits. The reborn spirit leads to the reversal of blindness in the mind. This opens ours minds to new possibilities.
As a Christian your spirit has no veil over it and as such can comprehend the things of Christ in fullness. Now, your mind must drink from that stream that flows out of the fountain of your spirit. This is the reign of the life of God.
